Hurricane Milton Situation Report #2




Highlights:  

·         Pasco County is still reporting historical flooding in low-lying areas and in several neighborhoods around the county near rivers and lakes. Residents in these areas have been encouraged to evacuate and head to higher ground.

·         As of October 11th, 13 counties were under evacuation orders.

·         10 Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Task forces are still deployed and nine have been released. 

·         Emergency Shelters Update:

o   91 shelters are currently open with a population of at least 13,000 people.

o   The Florida Department of Health (DOH) is supporting 19 special needs shelters in 11 counties.

·         The Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s (FDLE) is managing 46 active law enforcement missions with more than 70 completed. The missions include:

o   Fuel and Water escorts

o   Traffic control

o   Search and rescue

·         Healthcare and Public Health Update:

o   A total of 32 hospitals have been assessed:

o   Four hospitals are reporting operational impacts.

o   Five hospitals reported minor impacts.

o   One hospital is on generator power.

o   There was a water main break in Pinellas County which is impacting water supply to five hospitals.

·         Points of Distribution (POD) Update:

o   A total of 20 PODs are open in affected counties.

o   An additional 27 PODs are being mobilized. 

·         Infrastructure Update:

o   The State reports that approximately 1.4 million customers are without power.

o   On October 12th, Duke Energy reported that customers in Brevard, Citrus, Hernando, Highlands, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Seminole, Sumter and Volusia counties will be restored by October 13th.  Customers in Pinellas and Pasco counties will be restored by October 15th.  

o   There are 43 boil water notices in place.

o   Seven water treatment plants are temporarily closed in five counties.

o   The Sarasota County barrier islands of Siesta Key and Casey Key are without water due to flooded or inaccessible lift stations and possible leaks and breaks.  There are no estimated restoration times.

o   The State has established three fuel depots (Manatee, Pinellas and Hillsborough counties) that residents can obtain 10 gallons of gasoline.  An additional four depots will be opening on October 13th. 

·         Transportation Update:

o   All major airports are open.

o   The Sarasota Bradenton International Airport’s Concourse B roof was blown off.  The airport will be closed until October 16th. 

o   11 ports are currently at Port Condition Zulu and 8 ports are open with restrictions.
