Myanmar Highlights:
· There are at least 1,659 fatalities and more than 3,534 people injured. The actual figures may be higher due to underreporting amidst disrupted telecommunications.
· Over 13,000 people have been displaced.
· Infrastructure and Housing Damage:
o There are at least 10,000 buildings that have either collapsed or suffered severe damage.
o At least 5,460 homes have been destroyed.
o 544 religious buildings and 463 pagodas have been damaged.
o 28 hospitals have been destroyed.
o 47 roads, 25 bridges, and 10 dams were damaged.
· The Myanmar Red Cross is continuing to provide humanitarian assistance in the affected areas:
o With support from other organizations, they carried out search and rescue missions on March 29th.
o On March 30th they donated 146 units of blood to the Magway General Hospital.
o 600 boxes of rice and 600 bottles of water were provided to survivors at the Mandalay General Hospital.
· International Assistance:
o The following Urban Search and Rescue teams have been deployed as of March 31st:
ü China’s Search and Rescue with 80 personnel and three canines; arrived on March 29th in Yangon.
ü The Ramunion Rescue Brigade from China with 24 personnel arrived on March 29th.
ü The Shenzhen Rescue Volunteers Federation with 40 personnel and one canine arrived in Yangon on March 29th.
ü The United Arab Emirates Search and Rescue Team with 89 personnel and seven dogs deployed on March 31st.
ü The Chinese Green Boat Emergency Rescue Team with eight personnel deployed on March 31st.
ü The Guixing Rescue Team from East China deployed on March 31st.
o The World Health Organization (WHO) has dispatched nearly three tons of medical and other supplies (trauma kits, tents, etc.) to hospitals in Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw.
o The People’s Republic of China shipped the first batch of humanitarian supplies to the country on March 31st:
ü The shipment arrived on a chartered flight and included 1,200 tents, 8,000 blankets and more than 40,000 first-aid kits.
ü They are also planning to send drinking water and convenience food.
o The Thai Red Cross Society on March 31st was preparing to ship 400 sets of charity kits.
o The EU Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) was activated via a request from the UN:
ü Two UCPM member states have offered assistance.
Thailand Highlights:
· There are at least 18 fatalities (all in Bangkok) and 34 injuries.
· The following damage to homes and infrastructure has been reported:
o 591 residential buildings
o 92 hospitals
o 58 schools
o 66 temples
o 27 government facilities
· The earthquake caused the collapse of a 30-story building under construction in the Bangkok’s Chatuchak District
· The National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command has downgraded the disaster management level to medium-scale (Level 2), which puts the incident management under the authority of the provincial governors
