New Orleans Terrorist Attack Situation Report #3




Highlights:

• A total of 14 people were killed in the attack and 35 people were injured.

• On January 3rd, Governor Landry signed an executive order declaring a period of mourning (January 6-17) for the victims. The names of the victims that have been released are:

o Kareem Badawi

o Tiger Bech

o Drew Dauphin

o Nikyra Dedeaux

o William “Billy” DiMaio

o Hubert Gauthreaux

o Reggie Hunter

o Nicole Perez

o Terrance “Terry” Kennedy

o Matthew Tenedorio

• On January 3rd, the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) announced that the entire French Quarter has been reopened.

• NOPD has increased its presence in the French Quarter daily.

• The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has announced that all evidence has been recovered along Bourbon Street and at a short-term rental home on Mandeville Street in New Orleans used by subject:

o At the Mandeville Street location and at the suspect’s home in Houston, TX, investigators found and recovered bomb-making materials and other items.

• On January 1, at 5:18 a.m. CST, the New Orleans Fire Department responded to a fire at the Mandeville Street location. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) determined that the suspect set a small fire in the hallway and strategically placed accelerants throughout the house in his effort to destroy it and other evidence. The fire he set though burned to the point that it extinguished itself prior to spreading to other rooms.

• The suspect was planning on using a transmitter to detonate the two Improvised Explosive Devices he placed on Bourbon Street.

• The FBI has deployed more than 200 additional personnel to assist in processing evidence, supporting victims, and investigating leads and tips.

• The ATF has also deployed personnel from their Victims Assistance Program that will support victims, families, and witnesses to the attack.
