Highlights:
• There are four major fires in Southern California, they are:
o Palisades Fire: 22,660 acres and 11% contained.
o Eaton Fire: 14,117 acres and 15% contained.
o Kenneth Fire: 1,052 acres and 80% contained. This fire is currently impacting Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
Ventura County Fire Department reported that crews worked to mop up hot spots and improve containment lines, adding to the overall containment of this fire.
o Hurts Fire: 799 acres and 76% contained.
• The National Weather Service (NWS), Los Angeles reports that there will remain periods of Elevated to Critical Fire Weather Risk through Wednesday, January 15th for Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
• There are seven preliminary deaths being reported.
• At least 144,500 people are under mandatory evacuation orders. Curfews have been put in place in the affected areas.
• Shelter Update (Los Angeles County):
o Nine general population shelters are open with at least 1,529 occupants.
o There are nine animal shelters currently open.
• As of January 10th, World Central Kitchen has been making free meals available for first responders and community members that have been impacted at the several locations.
• On January 10th, Los Angeles County announced the opening of Family Assistance Centers that will provide information to people looking for missing family and friends due to the fires. There are currently two FACs open.
• The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL Fire) is reporting that more than 12,300 structures have been destroyed. Damage assessments are underway for the Palisades and Eaton Fires.
• Resource Update:
o Palisades Fire: 3,712 personnel, 24 Helicopters, 463 Engines, 60 Dozers, 62 Water Tenders, and 64 Crews.
o Eaton Fire: 2,832 personnel, 391 Engines, 32 Dozers, 112 Water Tenders and 38 Crews.
o Hurst Fire: 300 personnel.
o On January 9th at 1pm PST a SuperScooper Quebec 1 aircraft was struck by a civilian drone that was illegally flying over the Palisades Fire. The aircraft sustained damage to his wing and remains grounded and out of service. This incident is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration.
• Healthcare and Public Health Update:
o On January 11th, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health declared a Local Health Emergency.
o At least 20 healthcare facilities have been evacuated, and 71 facilities are being monitored.
o Seven healthcare clinics have been forced to close in Los Angeles County.
o The Air Quality Index ranges from Moderate to Unhealthy for the Palisades Fire and Moderate to Hazardous around the Eaton Fire. The real-time Air Quality Index Map is available here.
o The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) has posted the evacuation status and relocation information for facilities licensed by CDSS here.
o The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has declared a Public Health Emergency.
• Transportation and Infrastructure Update:
o Los Angeles Transit reports that all Commuter Express and DASH routes are subject to delays and re-routing.
o Two metro lines are suspended and five are experiencing detours.
o Several Boil Water and Do Not Drink Notices are in effect throughout Los Angeles County
o There are at least 64,000 customers that remain without power in Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
• State Update:
o The State Operations Center is fully activated.
o California Task Force 3 has been requested to respond to the Eaton Fire in a Type 1 configuration for recovery operations.
o California National Guard troops, to include the 330th Military Police Unit has been deployed to support State and local law enforcement.
o Through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact, seven Western States (OR, WA, ID, UT, TX & MT) have been helping California.
• Federal Update:
o On January 11th, the U.S. Forest Service activated eight Department of Defense C-130 aircraft equipped with MAFFS to assist with battling the fires.
o The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has deployed additional Liaison Officers to the Los Angeles County and City Emergency Operations Centers.
o FEMA has already deployed Disaster Survivor Assistance Teams to register residents for Federal assistance and connect them with additional resources.
o NWS Los Angeles reports that the fires and power outages have affected some of their radio and observation equipment. They have backup generators in place, but outages have persisted with some of their equipment.
