Conflict Highlights:
• The conflict between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continues.
• The Conflict Observatory on October 21st published a report that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has facilitated weapons to the RSF via Aéroport International Maréchal Idriss and Deby in Amdjarass, Chad, between June 2023 and May 2024:
o There have been at least seven flights by four cargo planes from the UAE to Amdjarass.
o Three of these planes have a history of weapons trafficking in violation of a UN arms embargo.
Humanitarian Assistance Highlights:
• As of October 1st, an estimated 10.9 million people are now internally displaced within Sudan. About 2.2 million people have crossed into neighboring countries.
• The Sudan Red Crescent Society (SRCS) has continued to provide humanitarian assistance throughout the country. Some of their recent activities include:
o With assistance from the World Food Programme (WFP) they distributed food aid (corn, lentils, oil and salt) to 6,961 refugees in the Al Firdaus camp.
o Non-food aid items were distributed to 500 families affected by flooding in the Arbaat area on October 7th.
o With support from the German Red Cross, the SRCS on October 10th is supplying three groundwater wells powered by solar energy unit in the Shagra area.
o On October 17th, SRCS received seven trucks coming from West Darfur State carrying non-food items for 2,500 beneficiaries with the support of the UN Migration Agency.
• As of October 15th, since the Adre border point reopened in August over 200 UN-contracted trucks have crossed from Chad to Sudan, carrying supplies for over 615,000 people.
• The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that as of October 19th there have been at least 26,000 Cholera cases and 722 deaths:
o WHO and its partners began an oral Cholera vaccination campaign on October 19th targeting 1.4 million people.
• Food Security Update:
o Over 25 million people in the country are facing a serious hunger crisis as wheat and sorghum prices soared by 25% from August to September 2024.
o All 18 states of the country report alarming malnutrition rates as of October 16th.
o At least 3,000 tons of food aid have crossed the Adre border as of October 3rd. A minimum of 170,000 people has received food and nutrition aid in West and Central Darfur.
• As of October 8th, the Sudan Humanitarian Fund has allocated around $321 million which has benefited 4.7 million people.
Violations of International Humanitarian Law Highlights:
• The Youth Citizens Observers Network (YCON) reported on October 5th, the RSF has been laying siege to El Fasher:
o RSF forces have denied humanitarian access to the city.
o Their forces have indiscriminately shelled several densely populated areas.
• The Humanitarian Research Lab on October 16th published a report on arson attacks that occurred in 14 Zaghawa communities in the Kutum locality in North Darfur.
• The Emergency Lawyers as of October 21st has also documented serious violations (mass massacres, rapes and looting of funds) by the RSF in the Al-Jazeera State.
