Conflict Highlights:
• Fighting continues between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) throughout the country.
Humanitarian Assistance Highlights:
• As of December 16th, 11.7 million people in Sudan have been displaced due to conflict and security:
o There are 8.6 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
o A total of 3.1 million people has fled to neighboring countries.
• On December 15th, a World Health Organization (WHO) convoy reached Damazin, Blue Nile. This convoy carried medical supplies to provide services to 82,000 people.
• The Sudanese American Physicians Association (SAPA) and WHO are supporting four hospitals as of December 18th:
o Al-Shohada Hospital
o Al-Fath Hospital, Karari
o Gedarif Teaching Hospital
o Gedarif Maternity Hospital
• On December 18th, WHO and Doctors without Borders (MSF) delivered 16.3 metric tons of medical supplies to Renk to Kosti, White Nile. These supplies included WHO cholera kits to manage 3,400 cholera cases.
• As of December 21st, SAPA and the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Sudan has administered the following vaccines:
o 1,948 women vaccinated against tetanus
o 7,917 children received essential vaccines
o 3,278 measles vaccines administered
o 3,756 PENTA3 doses delivered
• Two WHO chartered flights on December 24th arrived at N'Djamina and Port Sudan with at least 110 metric tons of essential medicines and medical supplies, including supplies for malnutrition, cholera and trauma to help meet the urgent health needs of vulnerable populations.
• The IPC Famine Review Committee has detected famine in at least five areas and projects that five additional areas will face famine between December 2024 and May 2025.
• On December 27th, the World Food Programme (WFP) reported that 78,000 people in South Khartoum received food and nutrition aid supplies. This is the first time since the beginning of the civil war that aid has arrived.
Violations of International Humanitarian Law Highlights:
• On December 5th, the RSF launched an assault on Nouri village. RSF members vandalized shops in the village market, looted goods, and forcibly took money from residents. They also seized an "Atoz" car and a tractor before retreating without resistance.
• RSF forces attacked the village of Al-Shrak on December 7th. The villagers defended themselves, resulting in the deaths of three people.
• On December 8th, the RSF attacked the Jodah area. This area houses refugee camps for South Sudanese, and the attack forced approximately 8,000 refugees to flee into South Sudan.
• The Humanitarian Research Lab has documented RSF attacks on the Zamzam IDP Camp. These attacks included aerial bombardment and the targeted razing of predominantly Zaghawa neighborhood in El-Fasher.
• SAPA and the Humanitarian Research Lab on December 11th published a report on healthcare facility attacks in the Khartoum State:
o 47% of hospitals were damaged in the first 500 days of conflict. Nearly half of these hospitals provided critical primary healthcare services.
o One third of the patient population lacks access to basic healthcare services.
• On December 14th, an attack destroyed parts of the Al Fasher Hospital. This attack led to the deaths of nine people and 20 injuries. This is the only hospital in Al Fasher.
• On December 18th, the RSF attacked the Bashair Teaching Hospital in Khartoum:
o Attackers fired weapons inside the emergency ward, directly threatened medical staff, and severely disrupted lifesaving care.
o The Bashair Teaching Hospital is one of the last functioning healthcare facilities in South Khartoum amidst the ongoing conflict.
o At this hospital, since the beginning of June 2024, MSF has conducted 12,396 emergency consultations, 2,510 patients were admitted in the maternity and 4,490 children were screened for malnutrition.
• An aerial bombardment on December 19th killed three WFP staff members at the WFP Field Office Compound in Yabus, Blue Nile State.
